Sausage rolls, one of my childhood favourites and my go-to school canteen lunch order. These are just as crunchy and delicious as the classic sausage roll, and even better, they’re so easy to make! Parents, give these a go...I guarantee your kids will love them!
Ingredients
1 pack of Filo pastry
500g beef mince (not too lean)
1 carrot, finely grated
1 zuchinni, finely grated
2 cloves crushed garlic
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (or BBQ sauce)
1 tbsp tomato paste
Handful of fresh parsley
1 red onion, finely diced
1 egg
1/4 C almond meal
Handful of baby spinach, finely chopped
1 egg, for brushing on top
Handful of sesame seeds
Method
Place all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well to combine.
Grab two sheets of pastry, and spoon the filling across the bottom of the sheet closest to you horizontally. (Lay out the remaining filo pastry and cover with a damp cloth while your rolling your sausage rolls to prevent it from drying out).
Roll the sheet over the filling and continue rolling until you reach the end. Continue rolling until you have run out of the filling.
Cut into individual sausage rolls and place on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Brush each one with a beaten egg and sprinkle over some sesame seeds. Place in the oven for 40 minutes on 180 or until they are really golden brown.
Tip: you may notice some juice from the meat will start to leak out. Just keep them in the oven until it evaporates, this will ensure your sausage rolls come out nice and crispy!
